Defensive Pistol

Defensive Pistol is a shooting program that closely follows IDPA action shooting.  TLGC is not an affiliate club of IDPA, however, our matches basically uses that format.  Our Defensive Pistol program is two parts.  One part is something we've come to call "Concealed Carry Defensive" pistol and the other part resembles IDPA matches.  This program uses the IDPA targets and scoring system with some minor differences.

Our basic "Concealed Carry" match is four courses of fire consisting of two separate shooting strings each for a total of 32 rounds.  Each string is no more than 5 shots total.  These courses of fire require very little movement and no reloading.  They are short shooting scenarios that teach very basic gun handling and tactics for defensive purposes.  To shoot this match all one needs is a pistol, holster, cover garment and 32 rounds of ammo.  Extra magazines or speedloaders makes it easier but they're not required.

The second part of this match is generally two courses of fire totaling around 36 rounds.  This portion of the match involves more shots per stage, more advanced movement and reloads during the course of fire.  These scenarios are more complex and are intended to teach more advanced gun handling skills and tactics in self-defense situations.  A holster, at least 2-3 magazines or speedloaders, cover garment and 36 rounds of ammo is needed to shoot this match.
